Last December, the Board of Trustees of Indiana University unanimously approved construction of a new Science and Engineering building at IUPUI. This 100,000 square foot Multidisciplinary Research and Classroom Building is expected to address the growing needs of programs in the School of Science and the School of Engineering and Technology.
It will include state-of-the art interdisciplinary research and laboratory spaces, modernized classrooms, collaborative learning spaces and support areas. Chancellor Nassar Paydar emphasized the essential need for a new building supporting increased student interest in STEM and other related fields of science.
In October of this year, The Facilities and Auxiliaries Committee of the Indiana University Board of Trustees approved the design of this building. The building will be constructed along Michigan Street at the eastern edge of the IUPUI campus. The three-story structure will be clad in limestone and metal panel materials similar to the Campus Center and the James J. Fritts DDS Clinical Care Center. A two-story glass curtain wall on the north side of the facility will create an open student study area facing Michigan Street, and three stairwells at the three main entries also will bring natural light indoors. We anticipate the Organic Chemistry laboratories will be housed in this building.
