A new project is getting ready to start at CEES: Edge of Field. Led by Dr. Pierre-Andre Jacinthe of the IUPUI Department of Earth Sciences, Edge of Field is designed to determine whether improvements in water quality can be achieved by altering farm management practices (like fertilizer application) at Starkey Farms in Hendricks County.

Bat Festival at IUPUI a High Flying Success!
The 8th Annual Indiana Bat Festival was held on Saturday, Sept 13 at both IUPUI’s Lecture Hall and Garfield Park.
Youth Farm Initiative
Saturday (Aug. 9) was the first day of the now weekly farm stand at Felege Hiywot Center, the result of the Youth Farm Initiative. Twelve farm workers were selected by interview to participate in the program focused on providing a hands-on experience in agriculture, ecology and entrepreneurship.
Microcystins in Eagle Creek Reservoir
Citizens Water in partnership with CEES-IUPUI has been monitoring the water quality of Eagle Creek Reservoir that provides drinking water to the city of Indianapolis.
School Branch
July was a busy month at the Center. Interest in the School Branch National Water Quality Initiative watershed continues to grow, and we were finalizing plans for instrumentation at the Starkey Farms Edge of Field sites, and working through the logistics of watershed sampling.
FEH News

CEES involvement in the Indiana Fluvial Erosion Hazard (FEH) Mitigation Program is most often discussed on the FEH website – but sometimes FEH projects are at the intersection of science, policy, and art, and then we want to share them with a broader audience.
Service Learning at Sodalis Nature Park, April 5, 2014
Sodalis Nature Park has been dedicated to the protection of the Indiana bat otherwise known as Myotis sodalis. Service learning crews were asked to help clear the bat’s habitat of the invasive amur bush honeysuckle. The heaviest concentrations were in the floodplain areas.

IUPUI Water Summit, February 7th, 2014
