Service Learning Project 5 Cancellation
Project 5 (Campus Tree Survey) is cancelled for Friday, October 26, due to inclement weather.
The Project is rescheduled for Saturday, October 27, 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM.
Note: there is a change of meeting location. We will meet by the IT building (by lot 83). Look for the yellow CEES Service Learning signboard.
2018 White River Festival
White River Festival to Feature Dragon Boat Races
The 2018 White River Festival runs from September 8-29. This year’s events will include the White River Dragon Boat Race and Festival. Boat races will take place at White River State Park on September 29 and will serve as the annual fundraiser for the White River Alliance, an organization devoted to increasing awareness about the White River and to improving and protecting water resources in central Indiana. Outreach Highlights Spring 2018
New Programs Premiere at Pacer’s STEM Fest and Earth Day Festival at Military Park
In the first half of 2018, CEES provided fun, engaging, educational, environmental activities that were enjoyed by 1815 participants at 10 venues. Spring outreach included smaller events, such as STEM Night at Brooks Elementary School, visits with high school STEM Clubs in Lawrence, McCloud Park’s 15th anniversary, and Summer Weather Camps with Kevin Gregory of RTV6. Students Throughout Indiana Discover the Science of the Environment.
This past spring, CEES’s Discovering the Science of the Environment (DSE) mobile STEM lab was in high demand around the state. The DSE team traveled 1409.2 miles, visiting 13 schools and delivering 30 programs to 1010 eager participants. (more…)
Stewardship Highlights Spring 2018
CEES Adds Citizen Science and a New Site to the Service Learning Roster.
Over the course of the semester, 242 IUPUI students participated in 10 service learning events. Jaguars converged on various parks, including Broad Ripple, Grassy Creek, Sodalis, and Juan Solomon, to remove bushels of Bush Honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii) – our (least) favorite invasive species. After School Science Clubs Present Projects at The Children’s Museum
Students Get Creative Responding to Environmental Challenges.
On May 11, students from Oaklandon, CFI-2 (Center for Inquiry School 2), SENSE (Southeast Neighborhood School of Excellence), and Paramount gathered at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis for a special event. Throughout the school year, the students had been taking part in a special After School Science Club (ASSC) program, and May 11 was the culmination of the ASSC experience: presentation of their projects to the public.
