2017 FFA Career Success Day Field Trip to Starkey Farms

CEES, with support from USDA-NIFA and in partnership with colleagues from the Hendricks County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), hosted a Future Farmers of America (FFA) Career Success Day on October 26 at Starkey Farms in Brownsburg, Indiana.
Education Outreach Highlights for Summer/Fall 2017
It has been a busy time for education outreach at CEES, with more than 7300 people participating this past season. CEES activities have included summer weather camps, expansion of the Center’s Discovering the Science of the Environment program, a visit to the state fair, and various other outreach events.
Fall 2017 Service Learning Highlights
Over 400 IUPUI students and faculty participated in CEES’s service learning program, working to maintain and restore natural areas at Eagle’s Crest, Starling Nature Sanctuary, Holliday Park, Sodalis Park, Oaklandon, Fall Creek, and the Lilly ARBOR. All photographs by V. Schmalhofer.

Duke Energy Foundation Grant Allows CEES to Build New Mobile Lab
In May of 2016, a generous $400,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation permitted CEES to begin designing and building a mobile lab equipped with a variety of renewable energy technology. One year later, the new – as yet unnamed – unit made its debut at Brownsburg East Middle School.
