To celebrate the 2016 White River Festival, CEES is sponsoring a dam event: the White River Low Head Dam Forum features speakers addressing issues of interest concerning low head dams.
Date: Friday, September 9, 2016
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Location: IUPUI Campus Center Theater & Emerichsville Dam
Topics include: public safety issues surrounding low head dams (Major Terry Hyndman, Indiana Department of Natural Resources), the effects of low head dams on stream systems (Bob Barr, CEES), and the ecological impacts of low head dam removal (Jerry Sweeten, Manchester University). The forum will take place at IUPUI’s Campus Center Theater, and talks will be followed by an optional field trip to the Emerichsville (16th Street) Dam, located on the White River just north of campus. The field trip is scheduled to run from approximately 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Forum participants will be responsible for their own transportation to the field trip site. Maps and parking directions for the field trip will be distributed at the end of the presentations (approximately 11:00 AM). We encourage carpooling. When you register for the event please indicate whether or not you plan to attend the field trip. Field trip participants are required to sign a waiver (please sign and bring the waiver with you to the forum; copies of the waiver will also be available at the event). Please register even if you do not plan to go on the field trip.
Parking on the IUPUI campus is available at the Vermont Street Garage, which connects to the Campus Center, and the theater is located on the lowest level of the Campus Center.
The White River Festival Low Head Dam Forum is sponsored by the IUPUI Center for Earth and Environmental Science (CEES), Indiana Silver Jackets, Indiana Water Monitoring Council, IUPUI Office of Sustainability, Fishable Indiana Streams for Hoosiers (FISH), IUPUI Center for Unmanned Aerial Systems Imaging, and Osprey Assessments.
