The 8th Annual Indiana Bat Festival was held on Saturday, Sept 13 at both IUPUI’s Lecture Hall and Garfield Park.
With over 500 people in attendance, it was a great crowd for the festival’s first time in Indianapolis! Highlights included a live bat show by Rob Mies, a raptor demonstration by Mark Booth, a silent auction, inflatable cave for kids to crawl through, multiple conservation organizations, impromptu songs by Musical Mark, a live performance of the YouTube viral hit “What Does the Indiana Bat Say?,” and talks by faculty, staff, and students of Indiana State University, IUPUI, and Ball State University.
It was great to see so much energy for our furry flying friends, and many went home with new-found bat knowledge. We’d like to thank the Indiana State University Center for Bat Research, Outreach, and Conservation for partnering with us here at CEES to put on this fantastic festival. We’d also like to thank our many sponsors who helped us keep this festival free for attendees. For more pictures of the event, visit CEES on facebook.
