Last December we announced that we were building on over ten years of research in the Eagle Creek watershed by developing a long-term partnership to monitor water quality and quantity in School Branch, a small (8.4 mi2) subwatershed of the Eagle Creek Watershed.
Last Friday we launched the project with a field tour of the project watershed. This collaboration of federal, state, local, and academic entities along with dedicated conservation minded farmers is providing a unique monitoring opportunity to assess conservation practice implementation at the watershed, sub-watershed, and edge-of- field scales in the School Branch watershed. The project will measure changes in water quality and quantity associated with conservation cropping systems that improve soil health in predominantly corn and soybean row crop agriculture. The data collected in this watershed will allow evaluation of how production agriculture can complement sustainable water resources.
We are very excited tp be part of this unique opportunity and we will be posting more details of the project regularly.
