What was your major/minor/certificate?
BA Spanish and Studio Art, MS Human Development & Family Studies, Board Certified Career Coach
Why did you become a career coach?
I firmly believe that people who are happy in their work have the power to grow a happier and healthier world. Career is a component of adult life that influences everything else. The decisions we make regarding career don’t just affect us as individuals. Eventually it touches our families, culture and society. The way we choose to spend our time each day contributes to how we grow and develop as individuals and collectively. I think there is a lot of work we can do to help people find their sweet spot so that they are happy with those decisions and so that our world is productive and healthy.
What is your favorite part of being a career coach?
There are so many things! Getting to design and implement programs like IUB Women Rising that are relevant to a student’s development and to changing what is happening in the world at large. Seeing a student’s relief when they begin to understand that career development is a process and it’s okay if they don’t know what they want to do yet. A process means it takes time to figure things out and that’s a good thing to gift yourself when you are making important decisions.
Why should students come in for career coaching?
Because support is a good thing to have when you are learning how to navigate something that will affect your entire adult life.
