Part-time Job + Company: Career Peer at Career Development Center
What do you like about your job? The support I receive at the Career Development Center is unparalleled to any other job I’ve experienced. I have the autonomy to own any project and am empowered to create new initiatives. I have been given the opportunity to coach students on their career paths. The professional staff is incredibly helpful and invested in my development as a young professional. I am very lucky to be a Career Peer and to have the ability to share my knowledge with others.
What transferable skills are you gaining? Leadership, Personal motivation, Time management, Personal development, Project management, Problem solving, Multi-tasking
Why do you suggest other students get part-time jobs while at school? My first year of college I struggled with having too much time on my hands. I thought that any minute I wasn’t in the classroom I needed to study. This caused unneeded stress and over analyzation. I believe part-time jobs ensure students prioritize their academic, social and professional sectors of their lives. Once I started working at the CDC my stress level went down and my GPA went up. Part-time jobs provide real-world experience and help students cultivate relationships with people they may not meet otherwise. I have created a network of colleagues I trust through working at the CDC and believe that is can be achieved through any part-time job.
What else are you involved with on-campus? I’m in Women in Business and am a member of Alpha Gamma Delta
Post-graduation Plans: I want to work with solving people problems at any capacity. People are the most valuable assets, if they feel empowered to do their best work, an organization is successful. I want to serve as a leader in cultivating cross functional relationships between departments.
