What do you like about your job? I like the communities I am developing while gaining real life work experience. Often times, there is a misconception that you are alone once you step into the working world. However, in all three jobs I have found a dependable staff and supportive bosses that encourage and push my growth both personally and professionally.
What transferable skills are you gaining? Personal Development, Teaching/Instruction Others, Multi-Tasking, Relationship Management, Social Perceptiveness, Service Orientation (actively looking for ways to help others), Monitoring (self, others, or situations), Judgement & Decision Making, Organizational skills, Interpersonal skills, Planning
Why do you suggest other students get part-time jobs while at school? I suggest students get part-time jobs at school because this is the safety bubble before stepping out of school and straight into the working world. Balancing school and work builds effective time management skills and organizing priorities while also giving a more realistic expectation of how to manage yourself when moving into the working world. Working life doesn’t involve homework or exams or stressful nights studying, but it does involve meeting deadlines and meeting and making appointments while learning how to take care of yourself. Working while in school also allows you to build the transferable skills and experiences you need to get that next internship or job waiting down the line.
Post-graduation Plans: I do not know yet, to be quite honest. I’m looking into working within human resources or professional development and consulting and continuing to build people professionally.
