Getting involved in a club or volunteering either on or off campus is a huge part of feeling a part of the community at IU Bloomington. It takes initiative for sure and the benefits are huge. So how do you go about getting involved?
First, be sure to check out BeINvolved under the Division of Student Affairs and search through events, clubs, and organizations on campus that are of interest to you. Chances are you’ll be able to find “your people” or “your tribe,” as some say, when you connect with those who share similar interests.
Second, look over all of the various volunteer opportunities on campus and in the community. Community engagement in the way of volunteering also helps you feel a part of the IU Bloomington community and is not only a great way to give of yourself but also a wonderful way to make new friends and network within the community.
What you have to offer to a group and contribute to the overall community at IU and in Bloomington is unique and what will make your time here at IU full of purpose and give you a greater sense of belonging. Take the next step, show initiative, and push through any discomfort in trying something new—you and others will benefit from taking this stretch to connect! The more involved you get, the better connected you will be, and the more involved you will want to be!
