Who the hell is Juliette? / ¿Quién diablos es Juliette?
¿Quién diablos es Juliette?, directed by Carlos Marcovich will be screened Tuesday, August 24th at 7pm at the Monroe County Public Library Auditorium.
Director Carlos Marcovich met Mexican model Fabiola Quiroz during the shooting of a music video in Cuba where he selected Yuliet Ortega to play her younger sister. Both Quiroz and Ortega have been abandoned by their fathers and are deeply scarred by what has happened. After shooting the music video, Marcovich filmed the two women over a period of three years and created the film, Who the Hell is Juliette?
Marcovich arranges a reunion between Juliette (Yuliet) and her father. Fabiola sets up an interview for her to be a model… with interesting results.
The film is considered to be a very creative “low budget” film by some and “quirky” by others. It has been labeled as a docudrama as well as a “mockumentary”. Come make your own interpretation.

Fundraiser aims to save "Style Wars" film
Fundraiser aims to save “Style Wars” film, a 1984 graffiti doc on PBS
The Brooklyn Academy of Music is hosting a Sept. 9 restoration fundraiser for a historic graffiti/hip-hop documentary that aired on PBS in 1984. “Style Wars” is widely regarded as the first doc to focus on the cultural genres. “Nearly 25 years since it first stunned viewers, the film’s negative stock is beginning to decay,” reports the HipHopDX website. The event will feature three screenings of the film, a question and answer session with filmmaker Henry Chalfant, a catered reception and — of course — hip-hop beats courtesy of DJ Kay Slay on the turntables.

A Note from Amy Serrano, Director of The Sugar Babies
Dear Friend:
By way of this note, I share that effective September 1, 2010, Sugar Babies will be exclusively distributed via Films for the Humanities and Sciences/ Films Media Group [FMG]. They will handle all non-theatrical distribution for film including electronic downloads [ finally available ]. FMG has a very prestigious catalog of films and programming and represent the world’s most prominent production companies including: the BBC, HBO, PBS, ABC News, CBC, Bill Moyer’s Public Affairs Television, National Film Board of Canada, and hundreds of independent filmmakers. As the largest educational distributor in North America, they are a good representative for our project. Royalties will be sent to The Hope, Courage and Justice Project and will be applied to the continuity of its mission.
Films Media Group has also expressed written interest in exclusively representing a “possible” forthcoming project from HCJ. More news may follow…
Sugar Babies is in their hands and may it continue to be used as an advocacy tool to understand and eradicate human trafficking, all forms of modern day slavery, and serve to create a better way of life for Haitian families on sugar plantations in the Dominican Republic.
On that note, I am pleased to share that tonight [and August 1st] the film will air on PBS in the Washington D.C./ Virginia markets.
Also as of tonight, we happily confirm a live film screening in Montreal at the FOFA GALLERY at Concordia University on August 12th at 9pm in the Courtyard [in case of rain, auditorium will be used]. The Montreal screening will take place in conjunction with the FOFA gallery’s exhibit revisiting sugar’s history and its relationship to slavery, colonization, as well as its contemporary relationship to human trafficking and modern day forms of slavery.
The film is also slotted to be screened live during the Human Aid Film Festival, and in the cities of Vienna, Cologne, Berlin and Hamburg next October/ November, and we are in talks with a human rights organization in Dublin for a Winter film screening and question and answer session on human trafficking.
From royalties of film distribution, HCJ hopes to continue annual weekend relief missions to people on the field till it is no longer necessary. May that time not be too far away.
Until September 1, film may still be acquired through www.sugarbabiesfilm.com
For your company/ organization’s media production needs, contact HCandJProject@aol.com .
Proceeds from commissioned projects benefit the mission of The Hope, Courage and Justice Project.
Thank you.
