NewFest, the LGBT film festival in New York, opens tonight. Several black filmmakers are featured in this year’s lineup.
After its world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Fest earlier this summer, Sheldon Larry’s debut feature Leave It on the Floor will be screening at the Harlem Stage on Monday, July 25 at 7:30 pm. Preceding Leave it on the Floor will be a documentary short on the acclaimed video and performance artist Kalup Linzy, Kalup Linzy & James Franco, That’s Entertainment.

Veteran filmmaker Thomas Allen Harris will be presenting his documentary short on civil rights activist and Massachusetts representative Byron Rushing, Marriage Equality: Byron Rushing and the Fight for Fairness, tomorrow, July 22 at 5:00 pm at Cinema Village. After premiering at Sundance this year, Rashaad Ernesto Green’s feature Gun Hill Road will close the festival on July 28 at 7:00 pm at the Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater. HERE’S the trailer.
