Despite the once-in-a-lifetime pandemic that continues to shape our lives it seems that this semester marks a milestone for many of us as we trickle back into normalcy. In many facets of life, from beginnings to ends, we often turn a focus to arts for expression, and in that same vein, I decided to ask my fellow members of the Arts and Humanities Council what songs they think best describe this Fall semester. Here are some of the songs they’ve chosen to describe this year:
“Dreams by The Cranberries has a great vibe for this semester. The lyrics talk about change happening and I feel like, after the past year and a half, this song fits that.”
-Savanah Draher
“My song of the semester is Summer Teeth by Wilco. It totally feels like a morning walk to class to me, and there’s this background of birds chirping that reminds me of Bloomington.”
-Madison Waliewski
“A song that I think really represents how I am feeling about this semester is Let’s Get it Started by the Black Eyed Peas. I think that this represents the semester because I am excited to really get started with the school year. This is the first time I have had in-person college classes, and I am very excited to have this experience. Additionally, this is the first time I have experienced an alive campus, with a full student body population as well as fun events.”
-Corey Jones
That is just a handful of songs and perspectives of this year, so I turn the question back to you! What song do you think describes this semester? Let us know in the comments or at @IUAHCouncil on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
