Dear AADC family and friends,
It’s not often that I’ve danced in the company of mountains. Both studios we’ve danced in have long open windows framing the tropical mountains above the mirrors and the deepest darkest and soft wood floors. The studios here are breathtaking. In fact the whole place is filled with inspiration. Every turn of a corner, I’m struck by the unique angles, thought provoking galleries and bright vibrant color of the architecture. If it’s not the architecture, it’s the vibrancy of everyone’s dedication, pride and kindness.
This is a place that values the arts and knows the power of full dedication to craft and expression.
This dedication created a powerful atmosphere when we performed. Our performance was greeted with amazing admiration and value, and the energy was so strong, all of us felt it when took the floor. Despite sickness, I gave it everything I had. There was something very sweet about getting to represent Pro Ro’s work to an audience of other performers/art advocates.
I related and was encouraged by the words of Neisha-yen Jones, a performing artist that encouraged a warrior-like perseverance in the arts. She said even in [insert hardship here] “…still I dance.” And she incited the artists listening to do the same.
The commitment of these artists has inspired me way beyond the energy I felt on the dance floor. Personally, I’ve always felt limited or confused on how to maintain active involvement in dance beyond college, this conference has created vision. This spark of dedication is just what I needed stepping into my next stage of life. Even when I’m busy or navigating the demands of a career or feeling insignificant in my technique, still I will dance.
