Mindfulness is all the hype in mainstream media, but there is some truth to this practice. Mindfulness involves focusing on the present without allowing the mind to drift to the past or future. It makes sense that this practice is healthy because it can ease the mind off of anxious thoughts and overthinking that can blur focus. If someone has unproductive worries, mindfulness trains the mind to experience these thoughts differently, according to the Harvard Health Blog.
A key part of the mindfulness practice is remembering to breathe, according to Psychology Today. Breathing is something we do as a necessity and rarely think about, but breathing is a great tool to bring our thinking back to the here and now. A way to increase focus is by taking a few breaths and paying attention to them.

A way to be proactive with mental health is by pursuing a form of therapy that is current and readily available. This form of therapy is an option to look into considering the roadblocks found in Cognitive Behavior therapy (CBT). Psychology Today has reported that CBT can’t help anxiety. CBT tells individuals that feelings are based on thoughts. When flying, for example, his theory doesn’t hold up. Emotion doesn’t follow suit when someone maintains the thoughts that flying is safe, according to the Psychology Today article. CBT only helps individuals to a certain point, which is why looking to other forms of therapy is essential in many situations. Many foods also help, like green tea and turmeric.
After analyzing 70 studies conducted between 1977 and 2014, researchers Tom Johnsen and Oddgeir Friborg concluded that CBT is roughly half as effective in treating depression as it used to be, according to The Guardian. CBT is outdated and PET is a more condusive form of mental health improvement in this day and age. The old techniques were not wrong, but they have expired as society and people have changed.
